If you've ever wondered what it feels like to throw yourself off the highest bridge bungee in the world, let me tell you — it's absolutely insane and totally worth it!
During my trip to South Africa, I made a spontaneous decision to bungee jump at Bloukrans Bridge near Plettenberg Bay. At 216 meters (709 feet) high, it holds the title of the highest commercial bungee jump from a bridge in the world. And yes, it’s just as fun as it sounds.

Getting There
Bloukrans is located along the scenic Garden Route, about 40 minutes from Plettenberg Bay. The drive alone is gorgeous with lush forests, cliffs, and ocean views. The jump site is operated by Face Adrenalin, and the vibe when you arrive is pure chaos. Music is pumping, people are watching, and you instantly get excited to be there.

The Build-Up
Before the jump, you’re strapped into a full-body harness and then zipline under the bridge to the platform in the middle. You’re then suspended above one of the most beautiful and intimidating gorges in the country.
Once you arrive at the platform, the crew keeps the energy high. They dance, joke, and make you feel safe before it's even your turn. I was super excited, dancing to the music on the bridge, while my best friend was panicking.

The Jump
When it was finally my turn, they strapped in my feet, checked all the gear, and led me to the edge. Looking out into the valley was breathtaking. It felt like time slowed down.
Then came the countdown Five. Four. Three. Two. One. BUNGEE
I jumped.
The free fall is pure magic and fun mixed into one. Your brain goes quiet for a second and then everything kicks in. You drop for what feels like forever and then the bungee cord pulls you back up. The bounce is smooth and kind of peaceful once you stop screaming.

The Recovery
After bouncing a few times, you slow until you're hanging upside down and a member of the staff comes down to pull you back up. The adrenaline rush is unreal.
They hand you a certificate and you can buy a video of your jump, which I highly recommend. It’s one thing to tell people you jumped off a 216-meter bridge and another to show them the proof.

What to Know Before You Go

Photos and Video: Add-on for R400 and totally worth it
Requirements: Minimum weight is 35kg (77 lbs)
What to Wear: Comfy clothes and closed-toe shoes

Final Thoughts
Bungee jumping at Bloukrans was one of the most fun things I’ve ever done. It was exciting, unforgettable, and such a cool way to experience South Africa. If you're in the area and up for a little adventure, I definitely recommend giving it a try.
